PART ONE: denim exploration
Having been given the challenge to create a denim-based textile project, I experimented with different techniques and drew inspiration from the graphic novel Sin City. Frank Miller’s illustrations are full of contrasting textures. The black and white images reminded me of the contrasting blue and white of denim when manipulated. I went on to create denim pieces with texture, translating what I saw in Frank Miller’s illustrations onto textiles.
Part two: senior collaboration
Applying what I learned in part one, I created unique textured denim textiles for my collaborative project with BFA Fashion Design student Eli Daniel Odisho. The collection was one of 15 graduate projects shown at our Senior Fashion Show in 2012.
